Futile.

My favorite word of the month is futile!

According to Wikipedia (http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Futile_cycle)

“A futile cycle, also known as a substrate cycle, occurs when two metabolic pathways run simultaneously in opposite directions and have no overall effect other than to dissipate energy in the form of heat.”

Thus the word futile. Two opposing forces cancel each other and the result is heat or futile. Heat in a non biochemical concept would be translated into frustration, in other words wasted energy, obviously without any result.

The common definition of the word futile is “incapable of producing a useful result.”

Poem, feeling or thought?

It took one guest post to make me realize many things.
Ever since I wrote Why poetry and love? hosted by duo author Wodke Hawkinson, and came to the realization that a poem is a feeling, I was also able to understand why I was holding on so tightly to my poetry collection of A Heartstorm. Because it was still subjective.

Now, I can admit that A heartstorm: A window to the soul in poetic forms to me is an account of the pain of growing and maturing and that I owe it thanks for my own maturity. That being said, I no longer have a problem with how others see it, for it is no longer mine. I only feel gratitude for what I have learned from it. I am also considering re-formatting the e-book and adding images as well. It is a long collection after all.

The Four letters of Love, on the other hand is made to inspire for through the visions and the strength, I drew hope and courage to carry on. Love is not just about the way you feel for a lover, love includes loving one’s self, family, friends, surroundings and yes the creator. I suppose it also could be seen as a poetic attempt to satisfy our desperate need to believe in something called love.

Although a few have known the word love, most of us including myself, have probably never loved for our love was a selfish need, idea, feeling or even desire. I came to understand for instance that I have always loved the feeling rather than the person. But love needs not be about how we feel, for love can also be seen by looking into a stranger’s eyes all the way to their soul. While humans have the capacity to be really evil, we were all born innocent. Love surpasses one person’s needs, for love can lead to acts of great courage when love becomes pure.
Pure does not mean in my world heavenly, but without hidden agendas, without selfish desires, devoid of the constant need for gratification. By pure, I mean looking through to one’s soul and capturing the essence of that soul in all the beauty it possesses.
It may all sound a little crazy or impossible and I believe it is due to the fact that we never want to try, because it also means forgetting about ourselves for a while. And humanity is known to be somewhat selfish. I will leave it at that, and for those who will read either collection, I only hope they will find something to learn from it.

I have learned so much since last September, when I began publishing and now I find it is essential and crucial to get feedback and reviews, even interviews to promote the book before its official release. Little did I know when I first launched The thinking man, paralysis by analysis.

I am no longer sure however, that I would like to write more poetry. Although poetry is needed still in our world, just like a painting, or a song, I have come to find that it is not much sought.
In addition to that, my last account from the past two years involved a lot of reasoning and less poetry. My feelings are no longer so much about a subjective narration but refer to a global generalization. I think of these thoughts as wisdom quotes; perhaps I have finally matured.

I am not sure where the road will take me or how it will affect my writing. For the moment, I leave it at that as well.

Love … again

SOPA fun

While everyone is taking the SOPA bill so seriously and speaking facts and analysis, I opted to play with it.

So here is a little story …

Since the beginning of man’s evolution, human beings have searched in every direction to improve on their existence.
At one point in time something known as the world wide web, or the internet was born and gave everyone a chance to speak their mind.
People began to connect over distnaces from one country to the other.
Companies began selling elsewhere what was sold locally, prior to the expansion and market reach.
Every person who had something to say, expressed his/her views.
Artists began sharing their work and exposing themselves.
A new means of advertising was born.
Then people began connecting and meeting new people through social media.
And more people began enjoying games with others online.
Some ventured into a virtual world and looked forward to fantasy ville everyday.

On a dark night however, some ill minded people saw the opportunity to benefit from deficiencies in this internet world, and began their attack.
Some of these ill minded people began hacking important organizations and stealing their confidential information.
Other ill minded people began stealing content and movies, music and books and distributing them over the internet in a piracy act and copyright violation.
Then some greedy people began scamming other users and taking their money online with no trace of them being found for their virtual account was shut thereafter.
The government realized he was no longer collecting proper tax on all user generated sites and raised a brow.
Big corporations saw a small but existing threat from self published artists and authors and filmmakers, and web content users and so on, that they too raised a few brows.
Then other ill minded people preyed on those artists and scammed them, preyed on housewives looking for online jobs and sold them many unwanted and non functioning products and scammed them.
Then more ill minded people began stealing other people’s identities and using their credit and bank accounts to rob them of their own money in many fraudulent ways.

Prefering to remain in power, the media was concerned why the news is no longer in her hands and saw everyone distribute their own ideas, stories, even news through many channels and in different formats. She became jealous too.
Then bookstores and record stores closed down and suffered economical loss because of the digital content over the internet.
And big companies complained when their content was being manipulated by users of the internet on social media sites and sought a way to control it and limit the use of their material.

Ah, the government then said, seeing how some top secret information has also been leaked over the internet, and realizing that the non US world had major access to US material through illegal and non taxable distribution.
Then the big greedy companies complained to the head government some more in order to reclaim their lost content now in the hands of the internet all over the globe.
Main greedy companies demanded a restriction of the use of its content in violation to its rights.
But the free internet world rebelled against being brainwashed by the big media and giant distributors of content, and complained about losing touch with the open world and free market, and was specifically concerned about self expression.
But the government was very mad to see money escape its pockets, to see his big allies lose power, to see confidential and even dangerous information so casually abundant in the wrong hands, and more so to find that his media right hand was losing its influence.
And then came SOPA BILL who proclaimed SUFFER OR PREPARE ATTACK you SOON OVER PUBLIC ANTAGONIST.

Moral of the story : “It is always the exception that sets the rule.” (Me)

All good intentions eventually turn bad, because somehow, someone wants to take advantage and corrupt the good. And then one exception leads to another until some measures call to be taken causing those part of the crime as well as the innocent to suffer the consequences.
